A while back I was in DC, unfortunately, and stopped in to get my hair done. Within a few minutes of sitting in my hairdresser’s chair, she analyzed me and decided I didn’t belong there. I’ve never worked in politics, and apparently it showed. She spent half my appointment trying to convince me to hop on a train to New York so I could be around “my people,” as she put it. She also told me I needed a therapist since I didn’t understand where my network was.
It was awkward, but before I left, she told me about the hair oil she swears by. That’s how I found Moroccanoil Treatment Light.

Every time I use this oil, someone compliments my hair. It makes the color look nice. The Light formula is made for fine or light-colored hair, so it smooths and adds shine without weighing hair down.
How I use it
- After washing, I apply leave-in conditioner to damp hair.
- Then I use one or two pumps of oil between palms and smooth it through just the ends. A little goes a long way.
- I blow-dry with a round brush.
Less frizz for my naturally wavy hair
My tip: Keep the oil on the ends only. Putting it near the roots can make fine hair go flat.
So I never did take that train to New York, but I did meet my New Yorkers in other places and walked out with a new hair secret and therapy. It’s sadly been extensive therapy appointments after dealing with such negative people and environments for years. It’s also been a long time since I’ve been to NY. Long Island was my fav as a child. Maybe it’s a sign to go back one day. She was right about the hair oil & therapy.
